Management Team
The sawmill is run as a family business with the management team consisting of Bob, Shane and Lisa Grant. Our staff are well trained and follow a comprehensive 70 page Code of Practice. Production staff are up to date with the latest timber grading guidelines and do carry relevant Chainsaw, Lift truck Loader and Truck licenses. All staff carry two way radio and are in constant contact with each other. We have 4 main management sections:
- Maintenance
- Green Mill
- Dry Mill
- Peripheral Operations
- Sales and Administration
Staff
Grant Timbers employ 30 full time staff and some casuals. Staff take planned RDO's with no more than two permanents away at any one time. Both Green and Dry mill work full 5 days a week. It's been a long-standing policy of ours that staff are regularly swapped to other unrelated sections of the operation to enhance the multi skilling of our staff. Any production line personal that, for whatever reason, require light duties are immediately slotted into the office where they undertake computer training and in most cases within 1 hour are undertaking basic data entry.
The Timber System
Our system is designed and written in house. Constantly undergoing upgrades it is purpose built to ensure that your order is sent along the production line in the shortest possible time. Progress data from the production line is received through out the day allowing the status of your order to be updated regularly. Feel free to call at any time for an update!
Delivery – Pick up
We have 4 modes of transport available:
- Mitsubishi 12 ton bogie drive truck fitted with crane;
- Single axle Hino truck fitted with crane;
- One ton utility.
- Taxi Trucks
A typical schedule would be into Brisbane daily and then to the North Coast and surrounding hinterland at least 4 times a week.
We have well trained forklift operators on duty who carry out a checklist procedure for both incoming and out going product. All product carries unique pack numbering and pack tallying detail. The load out check sheet prepared by our Timber System ensures that all packs make their way to the loading bay prior to load out. Product is quarantined and invoiced. Print outs also show the weight and maximum piece length of each pack to assist in correct loading. Two 4 ton Forklifts are fitted with scales.
